Matteo Mazzotti was born in Piacenza in April of 1979. Inspired by the craft of his grandfather Mazzocchi Oreste, a very well known cabinetmaker from Piacenza, and driven by an insatiable passion for music, he enrolled in the international school of cremonese violin-making at the age of 16 years. Since Matteo was a child he has consistently demonstrated the dedication for the art of woodworking. With particular skill in the area of violin-making, Matteo first studied under the Master Massimo Negroni, and later with the Master Wanna Zambelli. He achieved his license in the year 2000. Following graduation, he immediately went into business as a violinmaker. Taking advantage of its acquaintance for emilian authors like Guastalla, he made his first instruments inspired by these artists.
In 2001 Matteo attended the workshop of Negroni Massimo to perfect his knowledge of the cremonese style. He developed models drawn from Stradivari, and learned the secrets of the cremonese varnish. By 2002 his instruments began to exhibit a more unique style, personalized from the cremonese aesthetic conception, and typical amber coloration. He continues to attend Negroni Massimo's workshops to refine his skills, perfect his choices for color of varnishes, and to clarify his ear for the classic sound, of the cremonese violin. Matteo, being the only violinmaker in Piacenza to be given a degree, maintains relations with the conservatory, and many of the area violin maters. His work is currently sought after worldwide. From Japan to the USA, scores of clients have come to know and respect, Matteo's masterful craftsmanship.
